NIH Announces Requirement to Use xTRACT System for Training Grant RPPR Data Tables

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ) have announced that, as of October 1, 2019 (federal fiscal year 2020), grant recipients must create the data tables that are required for the Research Performance Progress Report (RPPRs) using the xTRACT system. This requirement applies to the T15, T32, T90/R90, and TL1 mechanisms. System validations in the RPPR module will check to verify that uploaded PDFs were created via xTRACT. The system will block submission of the RPPR if the data training tables were not created in compliance with this requirement.

Guidance for preparing the data tables can be found in the xTRACT User Guide (https://era.nih.gov/files/xTRACT_userguide.pdf) and on NIH’s Data Tables website (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms/data-tables.htm).

NIH has also compiled a list of resources for the user of xTRACT at: https://era.nih.gov/help-tutorials/xtract. The full notice regarding this requirement can be found at: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-19-108.html.
