An Exposure Control Plan is important because it helps protect workers from exposures to blood and other body fluids[1]. The Emory Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan (BBP ECP) has been reviewed and updated for 2020 according to the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 29 CFR 1910.1030.
One highlight in the 2020 revision is the addition of Appendix 3 which includes a selection of needle-safe devices and how you can find some of those devices in Emory Express.
The pathogens of primary concern are the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV).
The following Appendices were added to the Emory BBP ECP and the updated document is available on the EHSO website > Forms/Documents > search “Exposure Control Plan”
- Appendix 1 – List of activities assigned to Job Classification A
[Annual bloodborne pathogens training and documentation for Hepatitis B vaccination and antibody titers] - Appendix 2 – Body Fluids to which the BBP Standard/Universal Precautions (UP) and Standard Precautions (SP) apply
- Appendix 3 – Sharp-safe devices available in the market
- Appendix 4 – “Beak Method” Glove Removal
- Appendix 5 – Hepatitis B Immunization Review and Declination Form
