As a reminder, the EHSO Research Safety team is conducting assessments of research spaces to help ensure a safe work environment, to identify and correct laboratory hazards and to assist with regulatory compliance. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a modified assessment visit will be conducted for your laboratory following the current safety recommendations. The checklist of items we will be reviewing is available through the Special Edition Lab Rat Newsletter distributed on January 14, 2021.
The most frequently identified findings thus far include:
- Lab Self Inspection (LSI) has not been completed within the last 12 months.
- Chemical waste containers are not fully labeled per the following requirements:
- Waste containers are labeled with GHS hazard class pictogram(s) and EHSO Hazardous Waste Label at start of waste generation.
- Fire extinguishers are not inspected.
- Emergency eyewash equipment is not inspected or maintained.
