Further discussion of “beloved” or “be hated” evils : Part 1

Since I talked about Voldemort in my last blog, my curiosity about the villain was completely aroused. Why are they the bad guys? What are the bad means? Why they are so attractive to readers? And so on. Thus, in “Further Discussion Part I”, I would like to say something about the first two questions.

Why to What

Good or bad is a very general description. When we were kids, we probably asked, “Is he a bad guy?” or “Who is the bad guy and who is the good one?” as we read a book or watched a movie. But after growing up, we can realize that there is no such thing as good or bad in the world. Good and bad is a very general description. When I was a child reading books or watching movies, maybe we would ask “is he a bad person” or “who is a bad person and who is a good person”. But after growing up, we can realize that there is no absolute difference between good and bad in the world. He told a lie, and everyone thought he was a bad man, But the reason for lying is to protect others’ self-esteem or protect others from harm. Everyone may think he is a good man. Like Professor Snape. First, he was a Death Eater. After becoming a professor, he kept asking Harry for trouble and deducted points for Gryffindor. Readers would think he was not a good man. But, when he was dying, readers learned the truth, understood his painstaking efforts to protect Harry, and thought that the professor was a good man. Or Draco Malfoy. He is arrogant, rude, and a bad boy with improper words often coming out of his mouth; or he is a silly child who is under family pressure and spoiled by his father.

What to Why

However, there is no denying that pure bad exists in the world. This kind of evil comes from the deep part of the heart and emanates from the bones. This involves psychological knowledge and the dark trial. Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy.

Machiavellians are generally shown in psychology and behavior as ruthless, good at manipulation, conspiracy, pragmatism, result-oriented, and moral neglect.

Subclinical narcissism in the clinical stage generally has the following characteristics: egotism, vanity, self-boasting, dominance, superiority, arrogance, and self-righteousness.

As a personality trait, psychosis is generally manifested in behavior: impulsive behavior, seeking stimulation, lack of empathy, lack of responsibility, and lack of anxiety.

The phenotypic correlation between narcissism and Psychopathy can be found in genes. The coincidence of these two personality traits may be due to the common susceptibility genes; Shared environment plays an important role in the formation of narcissism and psychosis, which shows that family background, school education, partners, and friends are crucial to the formation of narcissism and psychosis; In the formation of Machiavellianism, family, school, friendly relations and personal special experience are the main characters that build up this dark personality.

Somehow, scientists have found something interesting. In our common sense, people will keep their distance from the so-called bad person, while research in 2009 shows the difference. Peter Jonason, a psychologist doctor who currently teaches at the University of southern Alabama, and his colleagues published an article pointing out that compared with college students with low scores of “Diablo triad” personality traits, those students with high scores (that is, the “bad” ones) tend to report having more sexual partners and are more interested in short-term relationships. This correlation is more obvious in men. Therefore, researchers believe that the personality trait of the Dark trial makes “men more likely to adopt predatory short-term mate selection strategies”.

Finally, through statistical data, it is found that the evolution strategy of the “black triad” population is a “strategy of the weak”, which is not only to reduce their moral level (such as loyalty) to obtain more sexual partners but also to cover the risk of failing to get excellent partners. Some studies believe that it was born in extremely difficult times, and vulnerable groups must become cold-blooded to pass on genes. So, it could be a strategy for minority groups in the personality evolution, to lower their moral standard to gain the chance of survival.
