What is the Short Course?
In this NIH-funded research training workshop on implementation and team science, multidisciplinary faculty and health practitioners across institutions in Ethiopia will learn and apply implementation research and team science competencies.
This one-week, short course will beheld in Ethiopia and led by multi-disciplinary faculty from Emory University, Addis Ababa University, and Bahir Dar University. Short course facilitators bring expertise in conducting team-based, implementation research to address non-communicable disease (NCD) in international settings.
Course content will introduce foundation concepts in implementation science, including implementation study designs, intervention adaptation, and stakeholder engagement, with an emphasis on developing interpersonal team skills for leading, managing, and working with individuals with different disciplinary training and experience. Didactic sessions will be complimented with case studies that illustrate how to address cardiometabolic and renal health challenges in Ethiopia.
Under the guidance of an early to mid-career implementation researcher, assigned participant teams will be led from program concept and design through evaluation around an implementation gap in NCD prevention and control of each team’s choosing. Teams will have opportunities each day to advance their selected project in alignment with course topics.
What are the Expected Outcomes?
Short course participants will work in teams with the goal of applying learned implementation and team science knowledge and skills in a demonstration project to be presented at the close of the week.
