After 42 years at Emory, the Woodruff Health Sciences Library’s director Sandra Franklin has retired. Sandra first joined the library–back when it was known as the A.W. Calhoun Medical Library–in 1983 as a reference librarian. She has served as the head of public services, assistant director, associate director, and acting director until her appointment as the first African American director of the WHSC Library in 2002.
Sandra led with integrity, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her career has been defined by collaboration, inclusion, and service to others. She has seen everything from card catalogs to artificial intelligence during her tenure at Emory, and she will be sorely missed by us here at WHSC Library.
