It’s Open Access Week!

The Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library is proud to celebrate International Open Access Week from October 19 – October 25, 2026.

What is open access? According to SPARC, the creators of Open Access Week, open access is defined as “the free, immediate, online availability of research articles combined with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment”. (“Open Access,” n.d.) OA Week provides an opportunity for students and faculty to learn more about these types of resources to benefit research and discovery.

This year, we have several events planned in collaboration with Robert W. Woodruff Library, including:

Button Making

Show your support for Open Access and create a new accessory by creating a button! Design your own or use one of our templates.

Thursday, October 22 | 12:30pm-3pm | WHSCL Ground Floor

Zine Making

Express your creativity and feelings surrounding Open Access by making a Zine!

Tuesday, October 20 and Wednesday, October 21 | All day or until supplies run out | WHSCL Ground Floor

New Behind the Breakthroughs Episode (Available Now!)

Fans of our podcast can tune into our new episode all about Open Access, in collaboration with Jenny Townes, Emory’s Open Access Librarian. In the show, we discuss what open access is, why it’s important, and how it’s funded.

We hope you’ll join us at our Open Access Week events to learn more about why open access is so important.
