Lights, Camera, Action!

The HBCU Film Festival website is now live!

Spearheaded by Marla Frederick (Dean of the Faculty of Divinity at Harvard University; Film Festival Founder) and Crystal Sanders (Associate Professor of African American Studies at Emory University; Film Festival Coordinator), the HBCU film festival showcases undergraduate and graduate student films on the history, legacies, and contributions of HBCUs in the United States. The website, designed by ECDS digital publication specialist Bailey Betik, further addresses the need for digitally archiving HBCU experiences.

Additionally, the website announces the next HBCU Film Festival scheduled for April 11th at Emory University. The Spring 2025 festival will feature panel discussions, film screenings, and awards such as “Best Documentary About A School” and “Best HBCU Student(s)-Only Film.” Students or teams of two students are encouraged to submit 5-10 minute films. Submit your video here.
