Matthew Jockers of the Department of English at the University of Nebraska will present a lecture, “Computing the Shape of Stories: A Macroanalysis” on Monday, April 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the Jones Room, on the third floor of Woodruff Library.
Prof. Jockers will discuss the applicability of quantitative methods to literary studies and discuss his own recent work charting plot structure in forty thousand narratives. He will also explore the plot structures of eighteen thousand contemporary best sellers to suggest a possible element of market success that is related to plot shape. See the lecture flyer for additional information.
This event is co-hosted by QuanTM, the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, and the Department of History.
