Albert Kwan
这幅画儿叫 Emperor Minghuang’s Journey to Sichuan.
Transcript:
his is a very beautiful painting. The artist used a lot of subtle, light colors in his painting. He seems to like using blue, green, and bronze-yellow. The painting includes a lot of elements of nature. It includes mountains, trees, clouds, and a small river running under a bridge. I love the mountains and clouds in the background. There are also men on horses appearing to travel as a group.
Qiu was a Chinese painter. He was born in Taicang (太仓 – now Jiangsu Province). He studied painting under Zhou Chen in Suzhou. Ying likes to paint in the green-and-blue style. He painted with the support of wealthy patrons, creating images of flowers, gardens, religious subjects, and landscapes in the fashions of the Ming Dynasty. His talent allowed him to become regarded as one of the Four Great Masters of the Ming Dynasty.
The painting is titled Emperor Minghuang’s Journey to Sichuan. This painting is just a section of a much larger Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) Chinese handscroll painting on silk. It shows Tang Minghuang, or Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, fleeing the capital Chang’an away from the violence of the An Shi Rebellion that began in the year 755 during the mid Tang Dynasty.
I think that the painter put a lot of emphasis on nature in the painting, which draws the viewer’s attention away from the horsemen. To me, it shows the men as insignificant when it comes to the beauty of nature, no matter what the situation that the men are in. I love how the artist paints the mountains and clouds in the horizon. It expands the boundaries of the painting, rather than centering the attention on the horsemen.
