Greening IT: Several Events Kick Off Spring

The "Green Swish" indicates stories or ideas emphasizing our Division's efforts to be sustainable.

Mark your calendars with the following spring sustainability events:

Friday, April 5, 7:30 AM to 9 AM – Sustainable Atlanta RoundtableThe Future of Transit in Atlanta, featuring MARTA’s NEW General Manager and CEO Keith Parker, to be held at the All Saints Episcopal Church (634 West Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta). This town hall meeting features a panel discussion with local transit experts.

Saturday, April 6, 8 AM to 12 noon – Don’t miss the Household Hazardous Waste Event at the DeKalb County Sanitation Division, Central Transfer Station (3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur). Organizers will take aerosols, mercury, batteries, adhesives, flammables, lawn care products, automotive products, fluorescent bulbs, photo chemicals, hobby/artist supplies, paints and paint-related products, cleaners, and swimming pool chemicals. This event is FREE for DeKalb County residents and they will dispose of these waste items separately from the regular trash stream.

Saturday, April 6, 8 AM to 1 PM – Native Plant Sale at Trees Atlanta (225 Chester Ave., Atlanta). According to the Trees Atlanta website, This new sale is being introduced as part of Trees Atlanta’s acquisition of the Birds, Butterflies, and Bees education program and features native, pollinator-friendly plants, and will also specialize in perennials that will be planted along the Eastside Trail of the Atlanta Belt Line.”

Thursday, April 11, Noon to 1 PM – “Influencing Environmental Policy Through the Consumer Voice” by Elena Parent, Executive Director of Georgia Watch (170 Urban Life Building at Georgia State University).

Saturday, April 20, 9 AM to 1 PM – Green Expo at Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GA Piedmont Technical College Conference Center, 495 North Indian Creek Road, Clarkston) has educational workshops like “Trees 101” and “Rain Barrel Making,” with green vendors at the ready to help with supplies.
