Green IT update

Emory Point is holding an unwanted item recycling event on Friday, November 9, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Green Space by The General Muir. Mark your calendars and get ready to recycle.

Details of what can be recycled are:

  • Residential materials only. No contractor or commercial waste
  • Clothing: Gently worn clothing, shoes, and accessories
  • Media: Books, CDs, DVDs,  video cassettes and vinyl records
  • Household: Furniture, dressers, tables, bed frames,  sofas, etc. No bed foam. Textiles and linens, games, toys, sporting equipment, yoga mats, bikes, dishes, glassware, kitchen utensils, etc.
  • Electronic Devices: Personal computers  and laptops, smoke detectors, cameras, video equipment, computer parts, DVD players, VCRs, printers, copiers, fax machines, monitors, keyboards, scanners, cell phones and telephones, radios, stereo equipment, speakers, game systems, televisions and remotes
  • Recyclables: Plastics #1– #6, metal, steel, iron, brass, aluminum, copper, glass bottles and jars (remove the aluminum lids), cans, foil, pie plates, steel and tin cans, paper, newsprint, magazines, junk mail, telephone books, and flattened cardboard
  • Secure Paper Shredding: Confidential document collection for shredding
  • Household Hazardous Waste: Latex paint (1-gallon cans only. No oil based paint, stains, paint remover, stripper or chemicals)
  • Miscellaneous: Bubble wrap, plastic bags, packing foam, wire, cables, printer cartridges, light bulbs (CFL and fluorescent)

All you need to do is ask to participate when checking out at Cox Hall Dining. They will charge you $5 and give you a carabiner AND a token for your first container. You exchange the token for a container and then the container for a new token each time you have a meal at Cox Hall with one of the following merchants:

  • Twisted Taco
  • Maru
  • Char’d House
  • Baba Mediterranean Grill
  • The Salad Bar
  • Dooley’s Market.

This pilot is available between October 10 and December 21 and is open to the first 100 students, faculty and staff, so sign up now!
