Reading Journal 10 – Gabrielle Stearns

I have chosen the word “body”

My definition – the physical form of humans and animals or an adjective describing the main bulk of an entity, such as a body of text.

I plan on making a powerpoint where text is side-by-side with videos of me dancing. I have never seen something in this exact format. Typically, I see dance videos with voiceover dialogue, but I would rather have the video accompanied by text to allow the audience to read and watch in their own time. They can linger on a specific video, watching it a few times or rereading the text before moving on to the next slide. I will use multiple dance styles, descriptive text, and possibly music.

I will be talking about the body in terms of its physical, human form and its use in compound words or phrases. For example, I want to look at how the word “body” changes or remains the same when put into the context of “body language,” “body of text,” and “embodied.”

My term intersects with individuality, queer expression, voguing/drag culture, and more. My issue is not with finding connections to the course, but with narrowing down what I want to discuss.
