The Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) and the Office of Research Administration (ORA) in concert with Emory Executive Leadership have developed requirements and guidance for the Phased Return of Research to Campus including a Return to Laboratory Research Checklist available on the EHSO website. There are also several other guidance documents provided on the main EHSO webpage.

The Return to Laboratory Research Checklist was developed as an aide for planning laboratory research re-engagement, minimize potential disruptions, and ensure the safety of all individuals working in laboratory research facilities. Laboratories are strongly encouraged to utilize this document prior to resuming research activities. Guidance is provided for several topics such as physical distancing strategies, preparing administrative controls, and checking engineering controls.

For example, ensure biosafety cabinets and chemical fume hoods are functioning properly prior to use. Check the certification date, it should have been certified within the last 12 months.

  • If a biosafety cabinet is expired, place a PO in Emory Express to have it certified.
    • Instructions to complete the required form and create the purchase order are provided in Emory Express.
  • If a chemical fume hood is expired, contact your EHSO Building Liaison.
    • EHSO will perform the annual performance test however, a testing schedule may need to be established.

Contact EHSO if you have any questions.
