Former Global Internship Peer Advisor (19Ox, 21C) | Global Internship in Hong Kong Program, Summer 2019

Hey everyone! I’m Steven, a senior at the college majoring in CS/Math with Economics as a double major. I participated in the Global Internship program in Hong Kong during the Summer of 2019. I also was a Gilman scholar for the same summer which partially funded the cost of the program. Currently, I am the Global Internship and Gilman Scholarship peer advisor for the Office of International and Summer Programs. If anyone has any questions about the two programs, definitely let me know! I’m always willing to help out.

During my time in Hong Kong, I traveled to Guangzhou, China to visit a few friends, who took me sightseeing. One of the places we went to was Canton Tower.

I was intrigued by the Global Internship program particularly due to the fact that they have 12 cities globally for the program with more cities coming in the future. Thus, it provided the perfect avenue for me to get an internship while being able to visit a new city. I chose Hong Kong for my city because the tech industry has been on the rise in Hong Kong so getting an internship there would help greatly. Plus I haven’t visited Hong Kong before so that’s another plus.

Through the program, I was able to get a rewarding experience working at a navigational systems company in a new work culture. Additionally, this program is not Emory-specific so there will be students from other universities participating too. Because of this, I was able to make lifelong friends with other interns from other universities, such as UC Davis, UCLA, University of British Columbia, etc.

My first dessert in Hong Kong.

I decided to become a peer advisor to help other students find an internship while being able to travel. If you have any questions or just want to chat about abroad programs, I am here to help!
