One of the most recent WHSC Library acquisitions is the Journal of Visualized Experiments, JOVE. JOVE’s publishers created an interesting concept of a peer reviewed You Tube for science. The strong point of the journal is its’ educational value, teaching undergraduates the concept of experimental methodology. It can also be used for training purposes, when graduate students or postdocs join labs, or rotate to a new lab. JOVE can be a great starting point for anyone, starting on a new model organism or trying to learn new technique.
The journal JOVE contains a fair amount of videos on basic techniques for different model organisms, and for basic techniques like PCR and Western Blotting along with a fair amount of advanced and highly specialized techniques. These videotaped methods and protocols provide a unique opportunity to follow an actual experimental process in real time, with all attributes that streaming video can afford the viewer.
