Happy GIS Day!
Every year in mid-November, on the Wednesday of Geography Week, comes GIS Day: a day to celebrate and explore the possibilities afforded by Geographic Information Systems (GIS). GIS is the ability to link databases to maps in order to display, manipulate, and analyze spatial data. We’ve had some exciting GIS and map-related happenings this semester in the ECDS, from mapping workshops to digital projects.
In honor of GIS Day and Geography Week, please join us for a special GIS-themed edition of The Think Tank on Thursday, November 19 from 2-4pm in the ECDS Aquarium. The Think Tank is our weekly open office hours where researchers are welcome to stop by and get assistance with digital projects, incorporating digital tools into teaching, explore new tools, or simply to talk with other folks engaged in digital scholarship. This week our GIS Librarian and other ECDS staff will be on hand to share some mapping tools or give input on mapping projects or assignments. We hope you can join us!
Also, in honor of Geography Week, here are two games we enjoyed at last year’s GIS Day celebration. Give them a try and test your knowledge!
