Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly responsible professional position located within the Division of Public Health Statistics and Performance Management.  This position is primarily responsible for:

  • public health reporting, including planning, writing, research and development and implementation of FLHealthCHARTS.com reports and products.
  • providing GIS support (i.e. geocoding and mapping with ArcGIS); and
  • providing technical support to public health programs and providers.   

 
Experience with ArcGIS, Microsoft SQL and statistical software (e.g., SAS or SPSS) preferred. Familiarity with: DOH programs and various data sets including: vital statistics, population, and services provided by the department will be beneficial. Interest in learning new statistical and data management packages desired.
 
Serve as team member for FLHealthCHARTS, Florida Health Performs, data support and helping website users interpret results, creating reports using Logi Analytic software, providing GIS support (i.e. geocoding and mapping with ArcGIS) and providing support for publications such as, the State Health Assessment, the State Health Improvement Plan, and the Vital Statistics Annual Report.  The incumbent in this position is expected to coordinate the collection and monitoring performance indicators across divisions and county health departments for performance management and outcome assessment.  Familiarity with: Florida Department of Health programs and various data sets including: vital statistics, population, and services provided by the department will be beneficial.  Experience with Excel, Word, and Powerpoint is essential to perform the duties of this position.  The incumbent must also have previous experience with ARCGIS, Microsoft SQL, and statistical software (e.g., SAS or SPSS).
 
Participates in team meetings to advocate for new vital statistics or FLHealthCHARTS data products or services to meet customer needs.
 
Provides presentations to educate audiences about the FLHealthCHARTS website; enabling participants to interpret information for their program or community.
 
Provides technical assistance, consultation and expertise to public health staff and community partners on websites, data support and training.
 
Automates new data products using Microsoft SQL queries to facilitate periodic data updates.
 
Geocodes vital statistics birth, death, and fetal death records annually.
 
Creates maps for the Division of Public Health Statistics and Performance Management using ArcGIS.
 
Participates in data analysis to:  1) ensure quality and consistency, 2) create sample files, and 3) determine statistical significance of trend changes.
 
Creates or modifies data reports using Logi Analytic software.
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The incumbent must possess the following:

  • Knowledge of applied research and/or evaluation methods
  • Knowledge of public health, public administration, health care administration or social services administration
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational skills to lead and communicate plan goals and objectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely
  • Ability to communicate expectations, assignments and responsibilities clearly and professionally
  • Ability to write grammatically correct and accurate reports that communicate concise reports
  • Ability to review and analyze agency records and documents
  • Ability to provide effective presentations and information to a broad range of audiences, internal and external to the Department
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and delegate work assignments
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a manager and team member
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment or be flexible

 
Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in public health or a related field is preferred.
Must have at least 2 years’ experience in public health or a related field. 
Must have at least 2 years’ experience working with SAS, SQL or other statistical/programming software.
