Description

The mission of CDC’s Division of Reproductive Health (DRH) is to promote optimal reproductive and infant health and quality of life by influencing public policy, health care practice, community practices, and individual behaviors through scientific and programmatic expertise, leadership, and support. The mission of DRH’s Maternal Mortality Prevention Team (MMPT) is to lead national approaches to the systematic collection, analysis, and use of data to end maternal health disparities, eliminate preventable maternal mortality, and improve the health of all women. MMPT leads two major surveillance approaches to understanding and preventing pregnancy-related deaths through state and local Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) and the Pregnancy Mortality Surveillance System (PMSS). MMPT supports MMRCs across the country to identify, abstract, and review pregnancy-related deaths and identify prevention opportunities, through the Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality (ERASE MM) program.

This fellowship provides opportunities to conduct data analyses that improve understanding of characteristics of, and prevention opportunities for, addressing pregnancy-related deaths; support ongoing development and modernization of the Maternal Mortality Review Information Application (MMRIA) used by MMRCs for data collection, review, and analysis; and build state epidemiologic capacity for using maternal mortality review data for prevention.
