The National University of Science & Technology in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe selected Goizueta Business Librarian Lee Pasackow for a Fulbright Specialist project in July and August, 2015. Anele Ndebele, who had studied at Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health, introduced Lee to the NUST Department of Library and Information Science.
A highlight of the project was teaching a class to 14 enthusiastic school and college librarians on how to design and teach an interactive research skills class to students. Partnering with the NUST Business Librarian on library orientation classes for newly admitted MBA students was a rewarding experience. “They are as curious and driven as any Goizueta student,” says Lee about the class participants.
In addition to teaching at the university, Lee also attended the Zimbabwe International Book Fair in Harare, which offered an opportunity to interact with authors, scholars and librarians from all over Africa. Lee’s hosts would not let her leave the country without visiting their natural treasures including: The Great Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls, Matobo Hills and Hwange National Park. Lee notes, “Despite the economic challenges facing the country, the people are resilient, hard-working and dedicated to building a strong society.”
