Using FactSet: Honing Your Skills

If you are planning to work on Wall Street or some other area in Finance, you will want to be familiar with using FactSet, a competitor of Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters Eikon, and Capital IQ.

While you are taking your classes remotely, this is a great time to take advantage of FactSet’s online learning, including its certification. To access all of its learning modules, you need to have your FactSet username and password. To register, use your emory.edu email to register via GBS SharePoint; within 3-5 days you will get an email from FactSet confirming your registration and providing login information. To dive into FactSet’s learning modules, login to https://learn.factset.com; you will be prompted to login.

FactSet Core Certification

Learn to use FactSet to analyze multiple asset classes; it will take you approximately 4 hours to complete the learning modules. The certification contains four learning components, each with its own quiz, plus a final exam at the end; each part must be completed in order: Part I: Navigating FactSet: Part II: Staying on Top of the Markets; Part III: Equities; Part IV: Fixed Income; and FactSet Core Certification Exam.

To access the Core Certification: after logging into learn.factset.com, click Catalog on the left beneath Home; click the Getting Starting tab; click Factset Core Certification; then click the Register button. You will have a maximum of two attempts to pass the certification; after receiving a passing score of 70 or above on the cumulative exam, you can download a certificate. At the point, you can add Factset Core Certified to your resume and your LinkedIn profile.

Knowledge Base Financial Modeling Certification

Knowlede Base is FactSet’s in-depth, self-paced interactive training program focused on financial modeling in Excel; beginning with Excel basics, you progress through a series of complex model-building exercises and assessment questions. KB consists of 19 modules (click HERE for a detailed description of each chapter).

If you complete all 19 modules and pass the exams with a grade of 70% or higher, you can add FactSet Knowledge Base Certified to your resume and LinkedIn profile. If your employer contacts FactSet, they can look you up in their system and verify that you did complete all of the modules.

To access the KB Financial Modeling Certification: after logging into learn.factset.com, click Catalog on the left beneath Home; click Financial Modeling Certification under the Academics tab; click Knowledge Base; then click the Register button.
