Multi-Functional Network Materials

POMs are active catalysts for both aerobic oxidation and hydrolysis of organic compounds, which has been used to develop materials for the decontamination of toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) and chemical warfare agents (CWAs).

Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2016, 55, 7403

A new one-dimensional polymeric polyniobate, K12[Ti2O2][GeNb12O40], catalyzes the decontamination of a wide range of CWAs and their simulants under mild conditions and in the dark.

The Hill lab has also developed organic/inorganic hybrid polymers comprised of V6O19 units. These multifunctional materials are capable of entrapping, detecting, and catalytically decontaminating toxic compounds through both hydrolytic and oxidative means.
