Roland Farrar has returned to Emory as part of a “phased retirement,” in which he will be working part-time at 80-hours per month in the same position he held when he retired in January of this year. Roland will be doing project management and outside plant (OSP) design engineering as part of the Field Services Team.
Roland has worked at Emory for the past 22 years as a project manager/design engineer, working with PMO construction project managers and others to design and implement cable connections to new buildings. He also coordinated cable and conduit system expansions and repairs and his responsibilities included the Yerkes and Oxford campuses. Roland is a BICSI member, having obtained both RCDD and OSP professional credentials and maintained them over 15 years with Emory’s support. Prior to managing OSP activity, Roland was involved with the interior communication development of new buildings.
Prior to his work at Emory, Roland was an installation manager of small to medium-size business telephone PBX systems in the greater Atlanta area.
Born and raised the in Boston, MA area, Roland graduated from Dean College with an AA in building construction and electronic engineering courses at St. Petersburg junior college.
He has lived with his partner of 38 years in Druid Hills and often walks to and from work. His hobbies include remodeling projects, travel, cars, interest in classical organ/Atlanta AGO.
