Some serious work is being done on the Library Service Center (LSC), a collaborative project between Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Scheduled to open for business this fall, the LSC is currently being constructed on Emory’s Briarcliff property, offering an off-campus location for collections from all of Emory’s libraries.
According to the project charter, “the Center will house a shared collection and provide robust service and optimal space for present and future library growth essential to both Emory and Georgia Tech.”
According to a November 19, 2014 article from the Emory News Center, features of the LCS include:
- A secure, climate-controlled facility with state-of-the-art equipment and technology to house library collections, provide access to them, and ensure long-term preservation.
- A first module to house approximately 4 million volume equivalents, on a site that can accommodate additional modules as needed.
- A reading room, allowing users to consult materials on site, so that they can make more precise selections of materials to be delivered to a campus library for use.
- Multiple deliveries per day of print materials to campus locations, and electronic delivery of scanned content, such as journal articles and conference papers.
