Since January of 2015, Peter Day has been planning to retire in January 2016 and move to Texas to be near his daughter and granddaughter.
Peter’s original plan was to wait until near the end of the year to sell his house and then build a house in Texas near his daughter. However, he kept noticing the cost of the house his wife Susan had chosen kept increasing. He had hoped that the value of his property would increase at the same rate, but he became concerned that it might not.
Luckily, Peter received an offer out of the blue from a developer that would cover the base price of the new house. He decided to accept it, even though it meant moving sooner than originally planned. As it turned out, he managed to sign a contract to build the new house just in time to avoid a $6000 cost increase in June and a planned $20,000 increase in September.
Closing on the sale of his house in Atlanta is scheduled for August 17, 2015. At that time he and Susan will go to Aubrey, Texas, and live with their daughter until the new house is built in Prosper, TX. Until he retires in January 2016, Peter will continue in his present job working remotely.
When asked about his plans for retirement, Peter said, “Other than taking care of Susan and helping raise our granddaughter, I do not know yet, so I just say I plan to get a ten-gallon hat, some chaps, spurs that jingle-jangle-jingle, a pair of six shooters, and a motorcycle. Then I’ll grow a long white beard and ride around making sure everyone is behaving themselves.”
Peter said that he has enjoyed working in central IT in various positions since April of 1972, and he will miss working with those he has gotten to know over the years as well as more recently, though he will still be interacting remotely until he retires.
