Nayef Smith (pronounced NAY-ef) came to Emory as the new Manager of Monitoring for Network Services. Before Emory, he spent 19 years as a monitoring engineer in the IT division of Hewlett Packard.

Born and raised in Mount Vernon, NY, Nayef received a bachelor’s degree in computer graphics from Teikyo Marycrest University in Davenport, IA.

Nayef’s main passion is teaching martial arts, Shinkendo, Japanese swordsmanship, and Aikibujutsu, which is a form of open-handed self-defense. He also loves video games and spending time with his wife Cheryl. One of his sons just completed a tour of duty in the Navy and the other is 14 years old.

“I’ve found Emory to be open and welcoming, especially in the advanced areas where I work,” said Nayef. “I’m very impressed by the competency and professionalism I’ve found here. It’s been awesome. It’s nice to help grow the depth and experience we already have.”
