Kerry Bowden is the new library coordinator in Oxford. She joined the staff after spending three years as building supervisor and library specialist for reserves at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She also spent seven years as the circulation supervisor at Danville Area Community College in Danville, IL. She started her library career as a student worker in special collections at Southern Illinois.
A native of Carbondale, Kerry received a bachelor of arts degree in English from SIU. She also hopes to get a master’s degree in library science and has completed some of her coursework toward that goal. Kerry has a long history in student engagement, which will be a major focus for her in Oxford.
Kerry describes herself as a “fiber artist” and spins fiber for use in knitting, crochet, and felt work. “I spin my own yarn and turn it into all kinds of things.” She prefers working with natural fibers over the synthetic ones.
“Oxford is different from where I grew up, but it is beautiful,” said Kerry. “I love it so far. I am very excited to be working with the whole team at the Oxford Library. They made me feel welcome immediately, and I feel privileged to be here.”
