“I look forward to bringing my expertise to manage the collection, increase its visibility, and actively engage the Emory community with this wonderful resource.” – Ashley Stevens

Ashley Stevens arrives in Atlanta to be the new historical collections archivist for the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library. She previously spent over two years as the archives and research manager at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, a historic estate in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. The estate tells the story of a prominent American family, Edsel & Eleanor Ford and their four children: Edsel II, Benson, Josephine, and William. “It is from this family that we have the continuation of Ford, the car company, and eventual establishment of the Ford Foundation,” says Ashley.

Ashley also worked as the education and outreach coordinator at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (2015-2017), an archives technician at the Philadelphia office of the National Archives & Records Administration (2012-2015), and as a research associate for Great Basin Institute, contracted out to Death Valley National Park (2011-2012).

A native of Brunswick, GA, she has a bachelor of arts degree from Georgia Southern University and her MLIS and MA from the University of South Carolina-Columbia, with a concentration in archives. She enjoys running, writing, and watching movies. She’s a big fan of sci-fi. Says Ashley, “Think: Star Trek, Star Wars, Farscape, etc.” She has substantial knowledge of movies and actors.  “I’m a great person to have on a quizzo team!”

Regarding her new work, Ashley says, “Everyone I’ve met at the Health Sciences Center Library is extremely nice and super helpful. I’m looking forward to working with them and collaborating on projects. The Historical Collections is an interesting collection with a wealth of information about the history of medicine, nursing, and public health at Emory. I look forward to bringing my expertise to manage the collection, increase its visibility, and actively engage the Emory community with this wonderful resource.”
