Banned Books Week at the Library – Sept. 27 to Oct. 3

Every year the American Library Association and libraries across the country recognize Banned Books Week to raise awareness about the harm of censorship. The week is also an opportunity to celebrate the fact that more often than not banned and challenged books still remain available to the public despite the complaints of a few.

This year, in honor Banned Books Week, the staff at the Oxford College Library have pulled some titles that have been banned or challenged in other parts of the country to display prominently near the circulation desk. Knowing that, ironically, the banning of a book often generates more interest in the same book, we have labeled each title with the “objectionable” reasons for why it was banned or challenged. The title is not immediately obvious, which creates an added element of fun in discovering what the book actually is!

We encourage everyone to check out the display and read a banned book!
