Meet the Team: Kate Dawson

Assistant Director of Education Abroad

Kate joined the Office of International and Summer Programs in 2016. Prior to joining Emory, Kate worked in the field of study abroad and had the opportunity to visit many US colleges and universities to promote study abroad opportunities. She also led student, faculty, and staff groups to Turkey, Spain, Ireland, Argentina, and Cuba.

Kate had the privilege of studying abroad twice during her time at the University of Georgia, first in Cádiz, Spain, and later in Niterói, Brazil. Both programs placed Kate with a local host family which served as a top highlight of each experience. Programs that facilitated Spanish and Portuguese language immersion alongside courses geared toward local history and culture, were significant supplements to her Spanish and Latin American Studies double major.

Although based in Niterói, Kate’s program spent a week in Recife, Brazil (pictured here).

These learning experiences played an important role in shaping her academic interests as well as her professional career. She met life-long friends and her husband studying abroad! Her only regret is not choosing a semester or year-long program.
