Lyndon Batiste, head of user services for the Robert W. Woodruff Library at Emory University, has been named to the 2024 American Library Association Emerging Leaders program.
Batiste will join a select cohort of 50 early-career librarians from across the US and Canada participating in project planning groups and networking events, gaining an inside look into ALA structure and an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity early in his career.
“Appointment to this program is highly selective, and this is an acknowledgement of Lyndon’s emerging voice and potential to impact the library profession,” says Kim Copenhaver, Emory Libraries Access Services director and Batiste’s supervisor.
“It is an honor to be selected as a 2024 ALA Emerging Leader, and I am happy to be able to represent the state of Georgia and Emory Libraries,” Batiste says. “My hope is that the skills I will learn throughout this program will allow me to impact the Emory community, the library profession, and the diverse communities that they serve more positively.”
Batiste joined the Access Services team at the Robert W. Woodruff Library in 2017, serving as the library service desk coordinator, until his promotion in 2021 to library service desk manager. Lyndon served as the acting access services librarian for seven months in 2023 before being promoted to his current position as head of user services in November. Copenhaver says Batiste’s steady leadership during times of transition within the team were instrumental in ensuring exemplary and uninterrupted service to the Emory community.
“This is an important recognition within our profession,” adds Valeda F. Dent, vice provost of libraries and museum at Emory University. “It indicates that Lyndon’s contributions and professional potential are being recognized nationally. We’re immensely proud of Lyndon and glad he’s a member of the Libraries’ team here at Emory.”
