The New OpenEmory: New Look, Same Mission

Sharing the results of Emory research with the world is paramount to Emory’s mission to create, preserve, teach, and apply knowledge in the service of humanity. As part of this commitment to open access to information, Emory built its institutional repository, OpenEmory, in 2012. Over the years, the repository has gathered research from Emory faculty and is nearing 35,000 records while providing roughly 1 million downloads annually.

To accommodate the continual growth of the repository, Emory Libraries has developed a new platform. The new OpenEmory, which has maintained the same URL of https://open.library.emory.edu/, accepts a variety of scholarly works, beyond open access journal articles and books, from Emory faculty, staff, and students. It is our hope that the new platform will improve the experience of authors and researchers.

OpenEmory proudly archives OA digital monographs, open access articles and pre-published manuscripts, conference presentations and posters, and more, from all Emory faculty, staff, and students. For information on what kinds of scholarly works OpenEmory supports and how to submit, visit the information pages from the Scholarly Communications Office.

Emory authors can self-deposit their scholarly works, or request deposit mediation from the Scholarly Communications Office by contacting openemory [at] listserv [dot] cc [dot] emory [dot] edu. Once deposited, all records are immediately published to the repository and receive a permanent URL that will ensure our researchers’ work is available in perpetuity. An administrator of the OpenEmory repository reviews all self-deposited records to ensure the copyright status of the work. Any author concerned that they may not have the permission to share their work in an institutional repository can contact the copyright specialists in the Scholarly Communications Office at scholcomm [at] listserv [dot] cc [dot] emory [dot] edu.

OpenEmory increases Emory researchers’ visibility and impact in the global market and provides struggling communities with free and easy access to up-to-date information. Emory is proud to be a part of the push for more open access to information, and the new OpenEmory platform will help us stay at the forefront of this global mission.
