The Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (Rose Library) at Emory University is pleased to announce the symposium, “Blacks on the Left” (May 31-June 1, 2019). The plenary speaker will be Keith Gilyard. Dr. Gilyard is Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of English and African American Studies at Penn State, author of two recent monographs on prominent civil rights activists whose papers are held by the Rose Library: Louise Thompson Patterson: A Life of Struggle for Justice (2017) and John Oliver Killens: A Life of Black Literary Activism (2010).
