Opportunity: Emory Foundations for Online Teaching – Apply by Sunday, June 21, 2020 at 11:59 PM EST
Emory Foundations for Online Teaching (EFOT) is a professional development opportunity for graduate students from any discipline offered through a partnership between the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS) and the Laney Graduate School Office of Professional Development and Career Planning, with support from the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence (CFDE). For questions about enrollment, please contact Shari Wejsa (swejsa [at] emory [dot] edu).
How it works
In a 6-week intensive course (June 29th-August 9th), EFOT introduces best practices for online teaching and is designed for graduate students who are preparing to TA or teach in an online environment. All course sessions use Canvas, and the participant learns from the point of view of an online student. EFOT only requires that participants attend two synchronous Zoom sessions.
Upon completion
Upon successful completion of a module, graduate students will earn a digital badge from the CFDE (awarded in Canvas). Those completing all five modules will receive a letter of accomplishment from CFDE.
More about EFOT
Comment from an EFOT instructor, Norah Elmagraby:
“What I love about EFOT is that it is not just a course on online teaching; by the end of our 6 weeks together, participants will have become equipped with skills that help them become better instructors, communicators, and course designers. This year, in particular, we have updated the curriculum based on the challenges witnessed the sudden shift to remote learning. We prioritized discussions on how we can, as instructors, create a sense of community in our classrooms and reduce stress and pressure in the online environment. I can confidently say that EFOT is an excellent opportunity for any graduate student who wants to sharpen their skills in online, hybrid, and even in-person teaching.”
