Applied Epidemiology Fellowship, Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE)

Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) established the Applied Epidemiology Fellowship (AEF) which is closely designed after the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) program and using a mentorship model to train recent graduates in the expanding field of applied epidemiology. Participating fellows will receive two years of on-the-job training at a state or local health department under the guidance of two experienced mentors.
CSTE’s Applied Epidemiology Fellowship (AEF) graduates use their knowledge obtained during their fellowship and post fellowship in various CSTE programs such as DSTT and LEAD to provide mentorship and leadership to future fellows and to the CSTE Executive Board. Over 65% of the graduates remain and provide capacity in State, Territorial, Local, and Tribal health department epidemiologist positions and the majority of the program’s graduates stayed in public health.
CSTE is now accepting fellowship applications for Class 23, which will begin in Summer 2025 and run for 2 years. To be eligible for Class 23, applicants’ master’s and/or doctorate level degree must be completed by June 30, 2025.
