Communications Specialist, Emory Global Diabetes Research Center

The Emory Global Diabetes Research Center (EGDRC; www.diabetes.emory.edu) is a campus‐wide program and part of the Emory Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC). The EGDRC is also the home of the Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research (GCDTR). We are seeking candidates for a Communications Specialist position to plan, develop and implement communications and promotional strategies and programs that optimize the visibility of EGDRC and GCDTR and further their mission of advancing diabetes and diabetes‐related research locally, nationally, and globally. The Communications Specialist will coordinate and implement communications campaigns by curating and writing copy for a variety of communications vehicles including but not limited to print, digital and broadcast media, social media channels, and websites, and collaborating with the researchers, staff, and partners to execute communications plans. This individual is responsible for planning and managing all components and tasks necessary to complete marketing and communication initiatives as assigned.

Responsibilities
 Produce content for a wide variety of print and electronic stories, including but not limited to press releases, e‐newsletters, social media posts, advertisements, and video scripts.
 Create and implement a social media calendar for posts; develop a social media strategy.
 Manage all elements of center newsletters including project management, editorial content, photography, editing, and distribution ensuring deadlines are met.
 Manage website and develop and publish content.
 Coordinate photo and video shoots.
 Produce written and video profiles of center research, programs, mission and goals, leaders, and researchers.
 Promote webinars and other center events.
 Produce and distribute press releases.
 Provide content for, prepare, and disseminate the EGDRC annual report and other print publications for the Centers.
 Assist with preparation of relevant presentations and reports; proofreading and editing as required.
 Develop database of individuals (media, influencers) and organizations (media outlets, organizations) for promotion of EGDRC/GCDTR activities.
 Develop and maintain documentation of communication strategies, content, distribution channels, and other communications‐related information.
 Provide content to WHSC, RSPH, SOM, and university Communications departments and work closely with them to coordinate promotion of EGDRC/GCDTR and center activities.
 Work closely with EGDRC development team and assist with relevant promotional content.Develop relationships with center leaders, researchers, research partners, media outlets, and other individuals and organizations relevant to the promotion of EGDRC/GCDTR and its mission and activities.
 Track outcomes of communications using analytic tools and report results to center administration.
 Assist the management team in archiving and compiling estimates of impact.
 Track media coverage of EGDRC/GCDTR and its researchers.
 Assist in coordination of high‐impact events such as conferences, retreats, and other outward‐facing activities that expand the reach and impact of the Centers.
 Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
 Experience in public relations, media relations, or communications and marketing and genuine interest in the centers’ goals.
 Strong writing/editing skills and experience writing media materials are a must.
 Proficiency and experience with social media content management, including content creation, scheduling, and analytics.
 Experience with email marketing platforms (example: Mailchimp, Constant Contact).
 Entrepreneurial and able to seek opportunities to promote the Center.
 Ability to develop engaging and impactful story content.
 Ability to write and edit using AP style.
 Familiarity with photography and/or videography best practices.
 Strong project management experience.
 Meticulous attention to detail.
 Experience in Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) preferred.
 Proficient in typical office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
 Graphic design and video editing skills are a plus.
 Familiarity with WordPress is a plus.

Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
 Recent graduate with related degree and relevant work experience while in college will be considered.
 Energetic individual with initiative, imagination, strong organizational, strategic, and interpersonal skills.
 Self‐starter with ability to organize and prioritize workload to effectively complete multiple assignments.
 Must be able to work independently and as part of a team; manage multiple assignments
 Have experience working both independently and in cooperation with other staff members while displaying a positive, cooperative attitude, and exhibit sensitivity to and respect for differences in personal and professional relationships.
