Overview of Position Openings
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Division of Reproductive Health (DRH), Field Support Branch is seeking interested candidates to fill positions on our Emergency Preparedness and Response and Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology Program Teams. These opportunities are open to recent graduates with a Doctoral or Master’s level degree who have experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, or maternal and child health. The candidate will be hired through the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) mechanism. ORAU will verify eligibility and determine salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Team’s Position
Position Description
The mission of the EPR Team is to increase the capacity of the public health system and workforce to address the special needs of women of reproductive age (including pregnant women and post-partum women) and infants in public health emergencies. Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop analytic plans and conduct analyses using data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS), and large administrative data sets
- Provide analytical support for pregnancy research and surveillance activities on CDC’s COVID-19 Response
- Conduct literature searches and systematic reviews
- Assist with writing reports for publications
- Support DRH emergency preparedness and response team during preparedness exercises and CDC Emergency Operations Center activations
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral or Masters level degree in public health or equivalent received in the last 3 years
- Strong background in epidemiology, data analyses, and/or biostatistics
- Experience with statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, R)
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency in SAS preferred
- Previous experience working in the field of maternal child health or emergency preparedness and response
- Experience analyzing complex survey data

Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology Program (MCHEP) Team Position
Position Description
The mission of the MCHEP is to promote and improve the health and well-being of women, children, and families by building capacity at state, local, and tribal levels and to use and apply sound epidemiologic research and scientific information to maternal and child health programs and policies. Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop analytic plans and conduct analyses using data from the risk Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) and large administrative data sets
- Conduct literature searches and systematic reviews
- Assist with writing reports for publications
- Support the MCHEP’s new initiative to increase maternal and child health capacity in health and racial equity epidemiology in localities and states
- Support the CDC and Harvard University Program Evaluation Practicum
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral level degree in public health or equivalent received in the last 3 years
- Strong background in epidemiology, data analyses, and/or biostatistics
- Experience with statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, R)
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency in SAS preferred
- Previous experience working in the field of maternal child health or applied epidemiology
- Experience analyzing complex survey data
- Training or experience in program evaluation preferred
