Program Research Specialist I, NYSPHC Fellowship Program

Responsibilities

The Program Research Specialist I will assist with investigation of outbreaks, tracking foodborne and waterborne disease investigations, reporting of outbreaks, analysis of data, identifying trends, developing, and implementing interventions and developing training materials to provide outreach and education to Local Health Departments and internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent will also provide assistance for special projects, conduct literature reviews, participate in work groups, and conference calls regarding outbreak investigations and other epidemiological studies. This position is supported by the New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Program. Successful completion of the Public Health Essentials certificate program will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, Statistics, or a related field; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and two years of research experience in the collection and analysis of data; OR four years of such experience. This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access. Successful completion of the Public Health Essentials certificate program will be required. Preferred Qualifications Graduate degree in epidemiology or another public health field. Working knowledge of public health/epidemiology surveillance systems, investigation protocols and outbreak reporting. Experience with communicable disease investigations, environmental investigations, evaluating interventions and development and providing of trainings. Strong written, methodological, and analytical skills with proficiency in statistical programs (e.g. SAS), and Microsoft software (Access, Excel).
