Position Description
The National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Division of Viral Diseases (DVD), Office of Director (OD) is offering an opportunity to an unclassified set of duties to serve as a Public Health Analyst. The mission of the Division of Viral Diseases (DVD) is to prevent disease, disability, and death from viral diseases through immunization and other prevention measures. This office is within the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, which plays a critical role in outbreak response, diagnostic epidemiology, vaccine development, and control of respiratory and vaccine-preventable disease nationally and globally. The incumbent will work in the Global Health Sciences (GHS) team and will support in part the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) initiative. The GHSA is a United States Government initiative and provides a framework to ensure that all nations are able to prevent, detect, and rapidly respond to infectious disease threats in order to protect Americans from emerging infectious disease threats such as Ebola and Zika.
Duration of Detail: one year
Unclassified Set of Duties:
- Strengthen international epidemiological capacity for enhanced surveillance for emerging respiratory and other viral pathogens
- Draft, review training materials for surveillance
- Provide training and other capacity building activities internationally
- Provide technical assistance for monitoring and evaluation of global surveillance
Desired Qualifications:
- An understanding of surveillance at the operational level
- Knowledge of written communications to prepare responses for inquiries, reports, proposals, etc.
- Fluency in English;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and be flexible
- Able to travel and train globally

Selection/Acceptance Process:
Applications will be reviewed and there may possibly be interviews. The program offices (losing and gaining), in coordination with HRO, will notify the selectee and negotiate the effective date of the detail between the losing and gaining CIOs. HRO will process the paperwork based upon the terms of the memorandum of understanding. Travel expenses to the duty site will be paid.
