Job Summary:

The Research Data Analyst provides expertise in data management, quality assurance, analysis and reporting.  Establishes data accuracy and validity derived from a variety of systems. Performs data analysis using statistical techniques. This role researches and analyzes information using multiple databases and creates reports of data and results. Assists in the preparation and delivery of decision support reports to both internal and external customers.

Program Description:

The Evaluation, Data Integration, and Technical Assistance Program (EDIT), housed in the Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH), is directed by Dr. Gregory Phillips II and Dr. Lauren B. Beach (Associate Director), and attempts to foster a learning community to improve the health and wellbeing of sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations in Chicago and beyond. EDIT’s goals are to (1) be a local leader in the evaluation of interventions focused on improving the health and wellbeing of sexual and gender minority individuals; (2) help community agencies build capacity to strategically plan and implement and evaluate innovative and culturally responsive programming that serves sexual and gender minority individuals through the provision of tailored technical assistance; (3) use a wide array of data sources to enhance understanding of health disparities of sexual and gender minority individuals at a local and national level; and (4) share best practices and lessons learned from program evaluation and research studies with policymakers, funders, and service providers to improve community response to serving sexual and gender minority individuals.

Project Description:

The goal of this project is to use data collected within the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), a biennial health survey of high school students, to assess alcohol use disparities between sexual minority youth and heterosexual youth across several jurisdictions and years. The national YRBS collected information on sexual minority status for the first time in 2015, providing the opportunity to conduct innovative research on alcohol and other health disparities on a national scale.

Job Activities:

The primary job activity will be to clean, pool, and analyze data from multiple years of YRBS administration. This will entail development of cleaning protocols, extensive documentation of programs, maintenance of large databases, and conducting advanced analytic procedures. Data analysis will be conducted primarily with SAS, SAS-Callable SUDAAN, and Stata.
