Surveillance Epidemiologist, School of Medicine, Infectious Diseases

The Surveillance Epidemiologist will support Emerging Infections Program (EIP) surveillance programs and special studies in the School of Medicine at Emory University to ensure high-quality epidemiologic data acquisition and quality procedures. The Position will be assigned to one or more specific EIP program areas but will also provide general EIP support.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Collects epidemiologic data through laboratory audit and medical record reviews in multiple health system.
- Enters, manages, and cleans surveillance and study data in databases such as REDCap, SendSS, Access, etc.
- Analyzes data in software packages such as SAS or R.
- Produces data, reports, and presentations for external partners, as well as for internal use.
- Retrieves, transports, and accessions packaged laboratory specimens.
- Communicates with medical facilities to collect and verify epidemiologic information and specimens.
- Conducts telephone interviews and supports special studies. Performs related program area responsibilities as required.
- May act as lead on a specific study activity.
- Complies with all ethical guidelines for scientific and human subjects research.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Public Health or related field from an accredited school.
- Epidemiology specialty preferred OR Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the program with two or more years of direct experience conducting infectious disease surveillance and epidemiologic analyses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong verbal/written communication skills required.
- Medical record experience preferred.
- Database management experience preferred.
- SAS and/or R experience preferred.
- Power BI experience desirable.
- EIP or health department experience desirable.
