Purpose of Position

To provide technical and project management support for Vaccine Impact Estimates for IA2030 analysis, within the Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals (IVB) Immunization Analysis and Insights (IAI). 

Background 

Reduction in child mortality continues to be a major goal for global health investment and strategies. Decisions regarding specific global priority investments are increasingly based on quantitative analysis of benefits. In particular, it is critical to update the modelled health impact estimate and document the methodology in a transparent manner for the coming decade to inform strategic priorities for IA2030 and the Triple Billion targets for GPW13.  To this end, WHO IVB and DDI will collaborate with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (Gavi), Vaccine Impact Modelling Consortium (VIMC), Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) and other partner institutions to generate global and regional estimates of lives saved due to vaccination based on transparent methodologies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and project management support to generate modelled estimates of lives saved due to vaccination for 194 WHO Member States by January 2021
  • Produce a progress report to the stakeholder committee and presentation of final results (a slide deck, draft manuscript and database)
  • Weekly calls with the WHO focal points to discuss progress
  • Periodic meetings with the stakeholder committee and partners
  • Provide technical and project management support for the analytics lead
  • Conduct scoping exercises for data sources, VIMC model outputs and available models for pathogens that are not within the scope of VIMC
  • Collate all available information and perform constructions of datasets and data management and cleaning
  • Assist with data analysis and preparation of progress reports and final deliverables
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in [statistics, data science, demography, epidemiology, public health]
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in quantitative data analysis

Study Coordinator for COVID-19 Cohort in Puerto Rico, CDC

Opportunity Description 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in collaboration with Ponce Health Sciences University/Ponce Research Institute (PHSU/PRI) has been working in southern Puerto Rico since 2012 to conduct sentinel enhanced surveillance for acute febrile illnesses. In 2017, CDC and PHSU implemented a community platform, Communities Organized for the Prevention of Arboviruses (COPA), to detect incident infections with tropical arboviruses and evaluate interventions to prevent infection. The ongoing COPA cohort was expanded to investigate COVID-19 epidemiology. The COPA COVID-19 or COCOVID cohort study will enroll and follow-up with participants over a 1-year period in order to investigate the frequency and role of asymptomatic and mild infections, risk factors for infection, illness severity, immune response to infection, viral shedding and household transmission dynamics. This investigation will help inform epidemiologic models, evidence-based public health policy, and development and evaluation of vaccine and therapeutics. Position Details

  • One-year term contract position with a possibility of extension depending on the availability of funding.
  • Duty Location: Ponce, Puerto Rico

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily operations of the study at the different cluster sites
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOP) for the components of the project
  • Work with study staff to track participant enrollment by date and cluster, and to evaluate number of vacant houses, refusal to participate among eligible houses and dropout rates
  • Supervise fieldwork including assessing barriers to recruitment by cluster, develop plans to overcome barriers, develop staff schedule, provide feedback on staff performance, supervise that SOP are being followed and other related tasks
  • Oversee data quality for the overall conduct of the study, including completion of all data for each participant in the study
  • Oversee that specimens are collected for all participants and that they match completed questionnaires
  • Oversee the preparation of specimens for pick-up and delivery to the local and reference laboratory following established guidelines
  • Oversee inventory for study materials and develop requisitions for supplies as needed
  • Coordinate stipend request for visiting households and keep proper documentation for the use of stipends
  • Serve as primary contact point between field sites, PHSU and CDC
  • Provide training, education, and feedback to study staff regarding professional conduct during fieldwork and other SOP related procedures
  • Assist in data entry, data cleaning, data analyses and data dissemination
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports as needed
  • Participate in other study activities assigned by principal investigator or other leadership staff.

Qualifications 

  • Masters in Epidemiology, Public Health or related field, or PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology or equivalent.

Epidemiologist Research Associate, Clinton Health Access Initiative

Overview of Role:

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong public health experience and analytical skills. This individual will support surveillance, analytics, and programmatic activities related to malaria elimination efforts. The epidemiologist will focus primarily on supporting Mozambique and South Africa as well as other countries of southern Africa where CHAI is working. Specifically, the epidemiologist will contribute to the implementation and institutionalization of integrated malaria information systems, strengthening surveillance processes and technologies related to data collection tools and visualization (e.g. dashboards), monitoring and evaluation of surveillance systems, and analysis of routine malaria surveillance data and intervention data. As such, the individual will work with a number of individuals on CHAI’s global, regional and country teams and will therefore need to possess strong communication and organizational skills. It is expected that the epidemiologist will need to partner with government programs, academics and public health agencies to ensure CHAI’s work is complementary and not duplicative.

Responsibilities

Surveillance support (50%)

  • Supporting integration of data use and analysis in routine programmatic activities at all levels of the health system;
  • Supporting development, integration, and institutionalization of malaria information systems, including data collection tools and dashboards;
  • Assisting to monitor and evaluate the performance of existing and new surveillance platforms, in collaboration with the health informatics malaria team at CHAI;
  • Developing guidelines, SOPs, and training materials for malaria surveillance activities;

Analytical support (20%)

  • Organizing and merging available data and assessing its quality and suitability for analysis;
  • Conducting statistical and spatial analyses (descriptive analyses, regressions and other relevant methods);
  • Managing and coordinating analytical projects related to malaria epidemiology, intervention targeting (e.g. Indoor Residual Spraying, LLIN distribution, health worker allocations) and surveillance, as required;
  • Synthesizing results and communicating them through high-quality presentations, reports, and publications;
  • Performing scientific literature review as needed;

Programmatic/operational support (30%)

  • Formulating and delivering national and sub-national level training materials with a focus on analytical content (e.g. data management best practices, online data collection tools), and surveillance strengthening;
  • Assisting with the development of operational plans and accompanying manuals and guidelines to support malaria case detection, case management and vector control activities;
  • Developing and implementing M&E plans for CHAI and program activities, including monitoring and evaluating the implementation of relevant malaria interventions
  • Translating results to national and sub-national government partners to support evidence-based decision making;
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders across government and non-governmental organizations, with support from program managers;
  • Any other tasks identified.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, GIS or related field;
  • 1+ years of working experience with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership;
  • Knowledge of malaria and/or other major global infectious disease problems;
  • Proven experience in disease surveillance and strengthening information systems;
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation of surveillance systems and/or public health programs;

Environmental Health Program Administrator, Maryland Department of Health

This position will be responsible for directing the Healthy Homes programs in the Environmental Health Bureau, including the Lead, Asthma and Radon programs. This position will also be responsible for conducting outreach and public health actions for the Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) program, as well as for other Bureau projects. This position will coordinate Healthy Homes activities, including the Medicaid-funded programs on childhood lead and asthma prevention.

Additionally, this position will ensure the implementation and documentation of public health actions and outreach activities required by the EPHT cooperative agreement. Finally, this position will manage grants and contracts, while supervising a team that includes outreach personnel and contractual staff members, in order to complete deliverables and accomplish program goals, in partnership with other Bureau programs; Medicaid; local health departments; academic institutions; and, other State agencies.

Senior Educator, General Dynamics Information Technology

A position for a Senior Educator is currently available for a highly talented and motivated individual to join our team in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – COVID-19 Activation.  This position is for fulltime employment with the ability to earn extra hours in support of this demanding response work.  Initial location is in a telework role due to COVID-19 restrictions and is expected to transition to the Roybal Campus located in Atlanta, Georgia.  This role is 100% at the customer’s location.  Learn More about CDC and the COVID-19 Activation here.

The purpose of this position is as the Senior Educator supporting critical training of COVID-19 emergency response coordinators.  It is one of five positions on a contracted COVID-19 Training Support Team.

A program has been established and this team will be responsible for conducting training, updating, and improving this program in coordination with both the CDC Division of Emergency Operations (DEO) and response leadership.  Weekly training is the current intent under a DEO initiative called RELAy- Responder Education & Leadership Academy along with ready electronic references.  The current training covers functional role and responsibilities, including the value response coordinators provide to Teams and Task Forces during the COVID-19 Activation. Additional topics include an overview on the response structure, first days as a Response Coordinator, EOMS (Emergency Operations Management System), and best practices to efficiently coordinate.

Responsibilities include:

  • Primary lead for design and development of instructional approaches and/or strategies to meet training requirements.
  • Production and execution of virtual learning programs (webinars, web-based training, and virtual conferences), in-person instructor-led training, user guides, faculty training scripts, blogs, and other related resources. Ensures adult learning principles are woven into all content
  • Develop in coordination with the instructional designer, discussion-based case study scenarios, participant handouts, read ahead material, and related ready reference products
  • Synchronizes integrity of task analysis, training hierarchies and requirements, instructional materials, and evaluation plans
  • Certifies CDC standards are met for all training, any clearance of materials is obtained, and products are 508 compliant.

Data Analyst, PRISM

PRISM Health seeks a Research Data Analyst to provide data management and epidemiologic support to research projects focused on HIV prevention programs and app-based interventions as well as COVID-19 surveillance and research. In addition to database development/management, the individual would be responsible for development of data collection tools, performing QA/QC, exporting data, creating reports and conducting basic statistical analyses for epidemiologic studies in SAS and R. Epidemiologist I, Maryland DPH

This full-time contractual position will support and enhance public health surveillance and detection capacities of the Office of Preparedness and Response by participating in bio-surveillance and other drug-overdose monitoring and analysis activities.
