Public Health + Community Networks, 12/8

Description 

Addressing social determinants of health through community strengthening efforts is gaining traction as we embrace a more holistic view of health. With this shift comes the challenge of community coordination. The team at the Center for Public Partnerships and Research (CPPR) at the University of Kansas has been able to strengthen community networks and ultimately improve health outcomes by crafting a community care referral system. Their tool, IRIS, equally weighs people, technology, and research, differentiating it as a sustainable offering to facilitate these cross-sector referrals. Are human-centric solutions like these the future of public health?

Join us in learning from Dr. Teri Garstka, Associate Director of the Center for Public Partnerships & Research (CPPR) at the University of Kansas. This conversation will be facilitated by Isabelle Swiderski, MA, MBA of Seven25.

Poverty poses a serious threat to the health of the public, as those living in poverty are less likely to be able to access the conditions that promote health. COVID-19 & the Federal Budget Panel Discussion, 11/11

The COVID-19 pandemic has focused attention on the nation’s health care system. Much of that attention has understandably been devoted to strategies for combating the virus, which has infected millions of Americans and caused hundreds of thousands of deaths, devastated the economy, and contributed to a ballooning federal debt. Controlling the virus is a public health issue but also an essential element of any plan to revive the economy and stabilize the budget.

Looking forward, the focus of attention will inevitably shift back to longer-term health care issues such as coverage, quality and costs that pre-existed the pandemic. How should policymakers address these issues and how, if at all, has the pandemic affected the policy options?

Please join this panel of experts including Robert Bixby, Executive Director of the non-partisan Concord Coalition, Dr. Kenneth Thorpe, Professor and Chair of the Health Policy and Management Department at Emory University and Dr. Jodie Guest, Professor and Vice Chair of the Epidemiology Department at Emory University.
