Change This Weekend (and not just your clocks)

timechange
On Saturday night, turn back your clocks and avoid the Emory Network for an hour starting at 1:30 a.m.

On Saturday night, do not forget to change your clocks back by an hour and, more importantly, do not forget about the core router change this weekend that will essentially bring down the entire network for at least 5 minutes.

A significant milestone in the N7K Core Router Redesign, this change (Change # CHG118908) addresses the problem with MAC address exhaustion and scalability. A redesign of the core, using newly purchased F2e modules, is necessary to address this issue. This redesign will also allow the UTS Architecture and Security Team to retire the old MLX routers, which are no longer in a supportable state.

Description of Impact

End User Impact: Users will experience network service interruptions on November 3, from 1:30 a.m. EDT to 1:30 a.m. EST (Fall Time Change).

Technical Impact: Due to past experience, we know the old core MLX routers, NDB1 & NDB2, respond poorly to this type of work and will likely require a reboot during the change. This reboot will cause a hard outage of at least 5 minutes to all networks connected to the NDB or North MLX routers. Applications that will be affected include, but are not limited to: Wireless APs, VoIP Phones, Exchange, Blackboard, Citrix, EeMR, and more. We will have UTS service and application owners available during the change to validate services are up and functioning normally after the reboot.

NOTE: Since the Network will be unavailable during this reboot, you should save a local copy of any technical documents you may need to reference during this time.
