Matt Hodgson is the new group manager for the IT Service Management Office (ITSMO). Prior to coming to Emory, Matt spent the last four years as the ITSM manager at Dartmouth College. He also worked in healthcare for ten years as an IT manager. Prior to that he worked at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale as a systems engineer and campus support supervisor.

Born in Miami, FL, raised in Ft. Lauderdale at the edge of the Everglades, Matt earned a bachelor of music degree in trombone performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, also master’s degrees in performance and pedagogy from Peabody, as well as a master’s degree in computer information systems from the University of Phoenix.

In terms of certifications, Matt was Microsoft Certified, Sun Certified, and Novell Certified, including being Novell’s Directory Engineer of the Year in 2001. Currently, he is ITIL certified through the intermediate capability track, and plans on completing the capstone course for ITIL Expert shortly.

Matt has a wife, Lisa, and two boys, Ian (13) and Nate (10), who are finishing the school year in New Hampshire and will join him at the end of June. Once a profession, music is now Matt’s hobby, and he is a real history buff. “If I had it to do all over again,” said Matt, “I would probably have majored in history.” He enjoys genealogy and has traced his mother’s family back to shortly after the founding of Jamestown.

“I am really impressed by the level of thoughtfulness and maturity of so many processes both at Emory and at work in my team,” said Matt. “I am really enjoying myself so far, and look forward to collaborating, not only within LITS, but with many people across the institution.”
