Pet of the week: Mina

Mmmm, cucumbers!

Gretchen Warner (graphics designer, CCR) adopted Mina in January 2018, after coming across her profile on PetFinder, wearing a red sweater in her photo. The profile read, “proud mother of 4 beautiful babies” and that she was “dropped off at the shelter in a laundry basket” with her babies. She had a calcium deficiency and was suffering from seizures.

Gretchen applied to adopt Mina (“The wait was agonizing”) then got the call from Angels Among Us that she was approved. “I wouldn’t say it was love at first sight,” said Gretchen. “Mina ignored me mostly, but I knew that I wanted to adopt her.”

Mina is a chihuahua / rat terrier mix. She’s 8.5 lbs but thinks she is a guard dog with a bark to match. She loves walks, cuddling, and cucumbers. It’s taken Mina six months to warm up to Gretchen’s roommate’s dog Wizard. While Mina is definitely an “only dog,” Gretchen hopes to adopt another dog someday.

One of Gretchen’s favorite memories is when she learned that Mina could swim. While hiking near Lake Altoona, Mina dove into the water and proved to be a natural swimmer. “I don’t think she’s ever been happier. I want to travel with her and have been working on training so that she will handle flying,” said Gretchen. “My goal is to go to Italy with her next year.”

Gretchen and Mina…best friends!
Mina cannot wait to go swimming!
