Canvas Release Highlights for April 2022

Canvas highlights for the April 2022 include features in the Canvas Studio release on Monday, March 28, 2022, the code deploy on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, and the production release on Saturday, April 16, 2022.

Canvas Studio Release – Monday, March 28, 2022: Teachers and TAs can access updated viewing analytics in Canvas Studio’s Insights tabs. The user list shows a completion percentage and may be downloaded as a CSV spreadsheet; students are shown by default, but other role types can be selected. Summary analytics include total view count, unique viewer count, and total view time. Click here for full Studio release notes for March 28, 2022.

Canvas Code Deploy – Wednesday, March 30, 2022: Teachers and TAs can edit the time as well as the date at which Assignments are due, available from, and available to using the Assignment Bulk Editor. The Canvas Community Q&A about this feature revealed that in this initial release teachers and TAs must edit the times in the text boxes (since the date picker lacks time fields). Canvas Production Release – Saturday, April 16, 2022. We will enable or unlock three new features in this release for Emory Canvas users on Monday, April 18, 2022:

  • Teachers and other graders can specify and apply a percentage to ungraded submissions across multiple assignments by selecting Apply Score to Ungraded from the overall Total column’s options menu or an Assignment Group subtotal column’s options menu in the Gradebook. We will enable this in all courses. Click here for full feature notes on Apply Score to Ungraded.
  • Teachers, TAs, and Designers can make icon images by clicking a new button in the RCE (Rich Content Editor) toolbar. Icons, colors, and custom text are combined and saved for reuse as SVG files. We will enable this in all courses. Click here for full feature notes on RCE Icon Maker.
  • Optionally, teachers, other graders, and students may use an emoji picker in SpeedGrader Submission Comments if the course teacher enables this course-level feature option in Settings. We will unlock this feature but not enable it by default. We may enable it by default during a quieter month in the academic year. Click here for full feature notes on Emojis in Submission Comments.
