What’s New in Canvas for Fall 2023
Here are some interesting new Canvas features from the past 12 months. They fall into three areas: creating content in Modules & Pages, using the Gradebook, and using Canvas Studio.
Canvas Release Highlights August 2023
Teachers can use new gradebook filters, replace course link targets more easily, and convert Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes while importing content. Canvas releases arrive the third Saturday each month.
Canvas Release Highlights for June 2023
Teachers can publish or unpublish all modules at once. Teachers using New Quizzes may hide practice quizzes from the gradebook & embed content from apps. User access report data is limited to 1 year.
Canvas Release Highlights for February 2023
All users can copy and paste or drag and drop images and other media into the Canvas Rich Content Editor. Canvas Feature Releases occur on the third Saturday of each month.
Canvas Release Highlights for December 2022
The New Quizzes tool now uses the Canvas rich content editor (replacing its separate RCE). Instructure removed Unsplash image search within Canvas. Canvas releases arrive the third Saturday each month.
Canvas Release Highlights for April 2022
Teachers can see new analytics details in Canvas Studio, change times in Assignment Bulk Editor, apply scores to ungraded submissions for multiple assignments, make icons, and add emojis in SpeedGrader comments.

In March 2022, all users will see a new interface in the equation editor. Teachers may enable an enhanced gradebook filter feature preview.

Course navigation menus remain visible on long pages, may have own scroll bars. RCE shows accessibility notifications. Teachers can search gradebook by assignment. Releases arrive on the third Saturday each month.

Teachers see a new tab in New Analytics displaying online “attendance” (daily activity for each student). Teachers can preview RCE accessibility notifications. Teachers can print from New Quizzes.
Canvas Release Highlights for February 2021
Student View buttons are labeled with words. File links get download icons. The HTML editor displays pretty code. Canvas renders delimited LaTeX equations. Teachers may enter override grades using CSV.
