Description 

The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a Health Scientist position to establish partnerships with academic institutions and serve as a point of contact for researchers studying health outcomes of assisted reproductive technology (ART). This position is a full-time, senior-level position. The Health Scientist will be hired by the CDC Foundation, and assigned to work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Division of Reproductive Health (DRH), Maternal and Infant Health Branch (MIHB), Assisted Reproductive Technology Surveillance and Research Team located on the Chamblee Campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The Team oversees the National ART Surveillance System (NASS) and has a mission to promote the health of women and men who receive infertility services, their pregnancies, and their infants by conducting surveillance and research, creating and maintaining strategic partnerships, and moving science to practice. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public’s health.

This is a two-year grant-funded position. Pending availability of continued project funding, there is a possibility for extension.
The Health Scientist will lead epidemiologic and scientific activities for the project. The Health Scientist will provide direction and take the lead on formulating research questions, identifying gaps in the literature, creating and updating the research agenda, coordinating the research submission process, assisting with data analyses and drafting the manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The Health Scientist will also provide expert technical assistance to collaborating institutions and researchers.

Duties 

  • Establish partnerships and serve as a point of contact for researchers, institutions and research review committee.
  • Develop and oversee research submission process and maintain Research Portal online.
  • Provide scientifically rigorous deliverables that best help researchers meet their objectives.
  • Provide scientific and epidemiologic support for researchers using National ART Surveillance System data.
  • Provide administrative support by maintaining confidentiality forms for researchers, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) documents, Data Use Agreements.
  • Draft and review scientific abstracts, manuscripts, reports, presentations.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external scientists and researchers on translating science to practice.
  • Assist researchers with CDC scientific clearance process.
  • Assist the project statistician with analyzing data and drafting manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Respond to public and media inquiries as needed.

Qualifications 

  • Doctorate degree in public health or a health-related discipline with a minimum of three years of relevant post-doctorate experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of independent research and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to propose, articulate, evaluate and defend scientific ideas and data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively in a highly collaborative research environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with individuals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities and activities, and handle multiple ongoing project activities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Capable of independent work with the production of high-quality output.
