Post doctoral opportunity to use big data and to to examine the effect of vaccines on antibiotic resistant infections

Position Description:

The research groups of Drs. Ben Lopman and David Benkeser are seeking a post-doctoral fellow to work on a portfolio of projects that focus on utilizing large, observational health care databases to quantify impacts of vaccines on the future of antibiotic resistant infections. The fellow will have the opportunity to work on epidemiological studies using observational databases, applications of causal inference methodology in observational settings, and the development of statistical methodology for causal inference and machine learning.

Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or other relevant quantitative field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Experience managing and manipulating large databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest and ability in both biostatistics and epidemiology
  • Expertise in causal inference methodology
  • Experience using high performance computing environments for data analysis (e.g., shell scripting, Linux OS, interacting with job schedulers)
  • Expertise in data management/analysis in R (preferred), SAS, Python, other statistical software
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Interest in infectious disease, vaccines, or antibiotic resistance

Additional Job Details:

The position will be based at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The fellow will be under the joint mentorship of Drs. Lopman and Benkeser and will have the opportunity to collaborate with leaders in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Emory and in the Atlanta area. The initial appointment is for one year and renewal for a second year is anticipated if performance is satisfactory. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with NIH standards.
